Thomas Giangiulio, President

As President, Tom’s responsibilities include handling the business operations, finances and strategic planning.  For professional and technical matters, Tom relies on IRM’s Vice-President, Kevin Pomian.

Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Villanova University and pursued his MBA studies at Drexel University.  He is a designated CPCU, CLU, CIC and AAI.

In addition, Tom’s professional involvement has included his participation in several professional organizations – Board of Directors, Insurance Society of Philadelphia; Board of Directors, Valley Forge Chapter of the Society of CPCU; Board of Directors, Independent Insurance Agents of Philadelphia and Suburbs (IIAA) and Board of Directors, PIA of PA, MD, and DE.

Tom was Vice-Chairman of the Commercial Union Insurance Advisory Council and served on the Hartford Advisory Council; as well as a member of the Aetna Casualty Advisory Council and the Advisory Board of McCracken Computer.

Kevin Pomian, Executive Vice-President

Kevin joined IRM in January 1995 as a Claim Examiner, and was immediately given the responsibility to engineer, create and setup IRM’s liability/casualty department.  In addition to handling all aspects of a casualty claim, he also created and developed the claim handling procedures for IRM.

In October 1995, Kevin was promoted to Liability Claim Manager, wherein he began to expand the liability department and IRM.  During this time, he continued to develop and revise IRM’s claim handling procedures and as Liability Claim Manager, Kevin negotiated client contracts, as well as developed and maintained client and vendor relations.

In the spring of 1998, Kevin was promoted to General Manager and began managing the overall day-to-day operation of IRM.  His main responsibility was to merge IRM’s workers' compensation department and IRM’s liability department into one cohesive claims unit.  It was during this time that Kevin developed and nurtured his role as the company’s liaison with clients, attorneys, brokers, agents and administrators.  In addition to handling claims himself, Kevin oversaw all matters of litigation.  He was also responsible for the marketing of the firm and generating materials for the continual growth of all IRM personnel.  He and Claim Manager Todd Breneman worked together to further develop and refine IRM’s claim handling procedures.

In September 2002, Kevin became Executive Vice President of IRM.  He now relies on IRM Claim Manager, Todd Breneman, IRM Claim Supervisor, Mark Cheslock and IRM Supervisor, Marie Mandarakas to manage the day-to-day operations.  As Executive Vice-President, Kevin maintains much of his General Manager duties, in addition to ensuring IRM’s professional responsibility and compliance with IRM and client standards.

Prior to his employment with IRM, Kevin served as a Liability Claim Examiner for the Maryland Insurance Group’s Commercial/Construction Liability Unit.  While at the Maryland, Kevin had the opportunity to identify the intricate networking within an insurance company.

Prior to The Maryland, Kevin worked for Crawford and Company as a Liability Adjuster.  Although he performed outside investigations, he primarily worked under Crawford and Company’s Risk Management Services division.  While at Crawford, he handled claims stemming from all lines of coverage except workers' compensation within strict specific client instructions.

Kevin began his career in the insurance industry in 1991 and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Mansfield University.  Kevin is a member of the Pennsylvania Claims Association and the Lions Club.

Todd Breneman, Claim Manager

As Claim Manager, Todd oversees Integrated Risk Management's property and casualty claim units and assists the Vice-President in managing the overall day-to-day operations of IRM.

Todd came to IRM in 1995, and has a background in servicing both insurance and alternative-risk clients.  Todd is the principal contact and liaison for property and casualty clients.  He is also responsible for the establishment of, and adherence to, IRM's client-specific claim handling procedures.  In addition to his management responsibilities, Todd also maintains a case load of files, the majority of which involve high exposure litigation and/or complex coverage concerns.

Prior to undertaking his current management responsibilities, Todd supervised IRM's Municipal Government Unit.  This unit consisted of a six-examiner staff which handled property and casualty claims for municipal entities.  Todd's claims experience at IRM includes the handling/supervision of Auto Liability, Auto Physical Damage, Property, and Boiler and Machinery claims.

Prior to becoming a supervisor at IRM, Todd was employed as a Claim Examiner.  Todd specialized in the handling of contractor's liability, civil rights, employment liability, zoning action, errors and omission, and law enforcement claims.

Todd began his insurance career in 1994 with Crawford and Company.  At Crawford, Todd largely handled Auto and General Liability claims for self-insured entities and insurance carriers.

Todd possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with minors in Pre-Law and Sociology from Cedarville University, Ohio.  He is a member of the Pennsylvania Claim Association and the Philadelphia Loss Conference.

Terry Murphy, Claim Examiner

Terry joined IRM as a Claims Examiner in October 2003. He is responsible for the handling of Municipal claims which involve Auto Liability, General Liability, Public Official Liability and Police Professional Liability.  He has an active caseload and is responsible for the adherence to the client's Specific Claims Handling Instructions.

Prior to joining IRM, Terry worked as a Senior Recovery Specialist for Cambridge Integrated Services, Inc., where he was responsible for the handling of a caseload consisting of large dollar value subrogation claims for Property, Automobile and Workers’ Compensation claims.

Prior to joining Cambridge, Terry worked for Reliance Insurance Company where he was a Liability Claims Examiner.  There he handled General Liability and Automobile Liability claims for Reliance’s Manufacturers and Contractors team.  He then moved to the subrogation unit where he handled large dollar value subrogation claims on Property, Automobile and Workers’ Compensation claims.

Prior to joining Reliance, Terry worked for Cigna for 8.5 years. He entered CIGNA as a Claims Representative Intern and was eventually promoted to Claims Representative and   Senior Claims Representative positions.  He handled claims for both self-insured and risk transfer accounts including the Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Services and the Pennsylvania School Board Association accounts.  

Terry has over 14 years of experience in the claims industry and has worked for both insurance carriers and claims administrative companies.  He holds a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Temple University where he majored in Business Law and Management.

Thomas A. Shaw, Claims Examiner

Thomas Shaw joined IRM as a Claims Examiner in September, 1998.  He is responsible for the handling of First and Third-Party Auto, Property, and General Liability claims.  Tom is also responsible for subrogation recovery.  Tom has an active caseload  and is responsible for the adherence of the client’s Specific Claims Handling Instructions.

Prior to joining IRM, Tom was a Senior Casualty Adjuster at Crawford & Company where he was responsible for the investigation, reporting and negotiation of Auto Liability, General Liability, Products Liability and Workmen’s Compensation claims.  He also performed Risk Control Surveys, handled Large Truck Loss claims and was responsible for on-scene investigations on a 24 hour basis.

Tom’s insurance training began in 1985 at Crawford & Company’s Corporate Training facility in Atlanta, GA where he attended their property and casualty schools.  He also took several correspondence courses thru their Continuing Education Program and attended numerous seminars conducted by insurance companies and law firms.

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, PA.  He also obtained a Real Estate Certificate, Cum Laude, from Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, PA.  Currently, Tom is taking continuing education classes at the Insurance Society of Philadelphia and plans on obtaining an Auto Appraisal license in the near future.

Marie Mandarakas, Supervisor

Marie joined IRM in October, 1994 and has the longest tenure of any employee.  She came to IRM with a background in both claims handling and underwriting for commercial insurance.

As an IRM Claims Supervisor, Marie oversees the workers compensation department.  This department is responsible for handling work related injury claims and determines their compensability, by investigating claimants, supervisors, and witnesses.  In addition, this department reviews medical information, establishes reserves, handles subrogation, monitors litigation and files appropriate workers’ compensation state forms.

Marie also serves as the Supervisor for IRM’s Claims Operations Department which provides support to the claims staff in their day-to-day claim handling.  In preserving integrity of the client account, Marie is solely responsible for processing checks for first and third party claims.  She prepares weekly funding requests for clients and produces loss runs and other ad hoc reports.

In addition, she is also responsible for IRM hardware and software technology.  She continues to maintain and upgrade the computer system, attends yearly software conventions and provides training to the employees on the state of the art system.

Prior to joining IRM, Marie was employed by a regional TPA, which was responsible for handling the workers compensation claims for the City of Philadelphia.  Marie was primarily responsible for the investigation and handling of the claims for the City’s injured firefighters.

Prior to her experience with the regional TPA, Marie worked for three years as an underwriting assistant for CIGNA’s property and casualty division.  Her responsibilities included manual and system rating, issuing, canceling and endorsing of commercial policies, including package, automobile, workers compensation and bond.  She also reviewed account experience reports and provided analysis to underwriting.

Marie also worked for Electronic Data Systems as a claims customer service representative.  She was responsible for the input of first loss reports, answering claim inquiries, directing customer calls and resolving complaints.  She also verified policy information and researched claims.

Marie began her insurance career in 1990 and has attended the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers University, concentrating her studies in Computer Science, Economics, and the Social Sciences.  She is also trained in several insurance disciplines.

Marie is a member of the South Jersey Claims Association and Pennsylvania Claims Association.

Monica Olsen, Claim Analyst

Monica Olsen joined IRM as a Claim Analyst in November, 2002.  She is responsible for the investigation, reporting and negotiation of Auto Liability, General Liability, Public Official Liability and Land Use claims.  She has an active caseload that is report intensive and is responsible for the adherence of the client's Specific Claims Handling Instructions.

Prior to her employment with IRM, Monica was a Claims Investigator and worked in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles.  Her investigations included locating witnesses, obtaining recorded or written statements, and photographing and diagramming accident locations.  These investigations were geared towards auto liability, general liability, product liability, and worker's compensation claims.  Monica has conducted investigations at the request of insurance companies and attorneys and she has also conducted background investigations on prospective employees at the request of private companies.  In addition, Monica is adept at developing information through pretexting and through online and courthouse searches.  She applies much of her expertise and knowledge of claim investigation in her daily handling of claim files.

Monica began her career in the insurance industry in 1999.  She has an Associates of Applied Arts degree from Gloucester County Community College and a Bachelors of Arts in Law/Justice from Rowan University.  While a University student, Monica participated in a funded research program titled the Capitol Jury Project wherein hundreds of jurors were polled after they rendered verdicts in order to determine how victim impact statements affected their decision on whether or not to recommend the death penalty for convicted criminals.

Joyce A. George, Claim Examiner

Joyce joined IRM as a Claims Examiner in July 2001.  She is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of insurance claims.  Joyce is responsible for the handling of sprinkler-contractor claims as well as municipal claims which involve Auto Liability, General Liability, UM/UIM, Employers Liability, Property and Inland Marine.

Joyce handles higher exposure automobile, general liability and property claims and has extensive experience in commercial lines claims handling.  Joyce handles claims in all 50 jurisdictions.

Prior to joining IRM, Joyce worked as a Senior Litigation Specialist for Reliance Insurance.  There she handled a caseload consisting of large and complex exposure trucking, automobile and general liability claims.  Joyce mentored three claims representatives by extending settlement authority, guidance in coverage issues and legal questions, led roundtables, and reviewed for proper reserving and progression of claims files.

Prior to joining Reliance, Joyce worked for ECS, Inc. as a Senior Claims Analyst handling all aspects of Environmental, GL, Auto, Trucking, Pollution, Inland Marine and Property claims.  She was responsible for the training and mentoring of new employees.  During her employment there, she has taken over 20 classes in environmental remediation.

During Joyce's career, she has relocated to several different areas of the country.  In doing so, she has worked for leading companies such as Pennsylvania Lumbermen Mutual (specializing in timber GL claims and Workers' Compensation), Maryland Casualty (handling commercial liability claims including subrogation), and Keystone Insurance Company (handling personal lines auto and homeowners).  She also worked and received her insurance training at Liberty Mutual handling both personal and commercial lines.

Joyce began her career in the insurance industry in 1984 and has worked for both insurance carriers and claims administrative companies.  She was a panelist for Inter Company Arbitration for several years.  She holds an Associate of Science degree in Accounting/Computer Science from Widener University and has taken additional classes at the University of Pittsburgh.  Joyce is working toward her LPN, and has extensive training in reviewing medical records, and lab reports.  She earned her CNA designation and is trained for physical therapy as well as several other medical services.

Joyce holds a Legal Principles Claims Specialist Designation.  She is near completion of her Sr. Claims Law Associate Designation.  She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Claims Association and the Philadelphia Loss Conference.
